Select from Four Naturalist Guided Expeditions
Seagrass Adventure
Our most popular expedition! Drag a net in the seagrass and who knows what you may come up with! There’s sea life of all shapes and sizes living the rich seagrass beds right outside our doors. Encounter seahorses to sea stars, pipefish to pufferfish, the variety of sea life is amazing! Your naturalist guide will identify each organism, making sure everyone gets a good look before gently releasing the catch. It’s wading fun for the whole family, with netfuls of surprises. Closed-toe shoes are required for this waist-deep wading adventure. Bring a change of clothes if riding home with a dry bottom is important to you.
$15 per person
Coastal Exploration
Students will embark on a short hike through our unique South Florida ecosystems and learn about the native and non-native plants and animals that inhabit these areas. They’ll keep a lookout for butterflies resting on flowers, sleepy raccoons in the canopy, and ospreys soaring overhead. Beach-combing ensures that the students get the best of both worlds, learning about both the land and sea. They will also explore our Exhibit Room and view animals in our Touch Tank.
$15 per person
Add a squid dissection to your coastal exploration field trip for an additional $10 per person.
Beach Babies
Are you looking for fun, educational, and nature-oriented activities for your preschool, kindergarten, or first grade class? Introduce your little ones to the wonderful wildlife and plants in South Florida. This program gives our youngest visitors a full sensory experience as they explore the coastal hammock, learn about sea turtles on the beach, and encounter live animals in our Exhibit Room.
$15 per person
Mangrove Slog
This wading exploration takes place at the northernmost end of the Bear Cut Preserve, where one of the few pristine mangrove areas close to urban Miami exists. Students will fully immerse themselves by slogging through the mangrove forest to learn about the importance, ecology, adaptations, and threats to these critically important habitats. They will encounter wading birds, pufferfish, stingrays, mangrove crabs, and much more! Conservation issues will also be discussed and students will be challenged to become better stewards for our environment.
